The Sport of Selection is the home to the archives of the Friday Night Session radio show and a host of related antics including music reviews, interviews, video features, and guest mixes. The Sport of Selection exists because we are always hunting for tunes, new and old. We live and breath for the thrill of the first play, the new discovery. And we’re fascinated by the many ways in which DJs, artists, musicians, bloggers, etc select and present tracks to open ears, create a vibe, and maybe even start a movement. The musical threads followed on this site are an extension of the sound of The Friday Night Session.
The Session streams live from 10pm until 12midnight on KUSF in XILE and is archived at www.thesportofselection.com
Hosted by San Francisco music addicts Andrew Jervis, Cez (Pop Your Funk) and Tomas Palermo (Editor XLR8R magazine, Google Music) the Session has been on-air since 1996. The show is driven by a vibrant selection of globally-sourced, forward-thinking tracks, and also the inspirational vintage jazz, soul, and funk that laid the foundations.

About KUSF in Xile: On April 25, 1977, KUSF launched as a noncommercial educational (NCE) FM station broadcasting on the 90.3 frequency. The San Francisco-based college radio station with a cult following, abruptly went off the air on January 18th, 2011, shocking DJs and listeners. The Dean of the University of San Francisco sold its license for radio frequency to the Classical Public Radio Network for $3.75 million, but did not mention the sale to all but a couple of staffers until after it pulled the plug on KUSF at 10 a.m that morning. KUSF is not currently airing on 90.3 FM, but the sale of the frequency still has not been approved by the FCC and there’s a fight to return the station to the San Francisco airwaves. The spirit of KUSF lives in San Francisco. We celebrate the 35th Anniversary of KUSF, and in the meantime KUSF in Xile broadcasts live on the internet.
